<img alt=""personal care"" src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1228/5163783967_1296725fe4_m.jpg" width="160"/>

Long-term disability(LTD) insurance is designed to protect individuals, employees, business owners or professionals who may need skilled nursing, intermediate care, or custodial care following an injury or illness.

This type of insurance may prove critical in covering the cost of long-term disability care, and preventing policyholders from having to sell off personal or business assets. Contrary to critical illness insurance which typically provides benefits up to age 65, long term care insurance may provide benefits up to age 80.

LTD care can be based in a nursing home or other care facility or at home. As this type of permanent care can be extensive and costly, this type of insurance more than pays for itself when claims are granted, and defraying the cost of long-term care can protect a policyholder’s financial stability and assets.

Long-term disability care can include skilled nursing care, intermediate care, and/or custodial care. Have your lawyer review your policy carefully for specific restrictions and provisions:

* Skilled nursing – under doctor’s orders, skilled nursing is usually mandated for severe injuries or illness and usually requires around the clock care, either in home, or in a facility
* Intermediate nursing care – usually ordered for injuries or illnesses that are somewhat stable and requires less specialized, daily care
* Custodial care – “personal care” patients are given assistance with routine daily activities, but do not need daily medical assistance

If you or a loved one has become disabled and need to make a long-term disability claim against an insurance company, you should hire an experienced lawyer who is well versed in LTD claim disputes law and contract language. If your claim has been denied, a long-term disability lawyer at David Share Associates can help you sort through the details of your contract to figure out how much protection you are entitled to.

We can help you get the most out of your policy’s many provisions and make sure you get the maximum benefits legally allowed. Your daily benefit amount, deductible or waiting period, guaranteed renewable, maximum policy benefit, pre-existing condition limitations, and policy exclusions are just a few of the provisions our lawyers will thoroughly explore.

If your LTD claim dispute has been denied, you need the legal guidance of David Share Associates.

There are time limits to all claims and any delay in proceeding may be subject to a deadline. You should not delay in proceeding with your claim or obtaining legal advice to clarify these deadlines.

<img alt=""personal care"" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4001/5164390388_1951b756b8_m.jpg" width="160"/>

According to AARP, Montana have billed almost 75 percent of its Medicaid long term care expenditures for older people and adults with disabilities to nursing homes, even though most of these individuals favour to stay in their own homes and communities. Its records show, the state spent 12 percent on waiver services and 13 percent on personal care services.

According to the 2010 Genworth Cost of Care Survey, practically two-thirds of people over age 65 will need LTC at home or through adult day health care, or care in an assisted living facility or nursing home. And while most people think of it as impacting only those in senior years, 40 percent of people presently receiving LTC service are ages 18 to 64.

Other data also show, the state has a higher than national average of residents who are over the age of 65. At present, 13.9% of its population are seniors accumulated to over 131,000 individuals. And, these numbers are expected to elevate in the coming years same with the increasing need for assisted living and LTC. This demand is also facing a few difficulties reaching out to seniors since many areas of the sate are quite remote making assisted living and elder care inaccessible to most elderly.

Moreover, AARP stated Montana still has an unbalanced LTC system for older people and adults with physical disabilities and the state’s number of participants receiving home and community-based services slightly amplified while the number of participants in nursing homes has declined. The institute presented, from 2001 to 2006, the swell in Medicaid spending in nursing homes was more than seven times as much as the increase in spending on HCBS.

In addition, the State Plan on Aging announced the state is aging at a faster rate compared to most other states. And, to address this occurring issue, it recommended an increase in the number of people served by the Medicaid Home and Community-based Waiver Program. The state’s legislature then followed by providing additional funding.

To continuously cure the rising impediments within its health care system, Montana also created the Senate Bill 155, the Older Montanans Trust Fund, in 2007 which expands and develops new and innovative approaches to home-based services for people aging 60 and above. Followed by another passed bill of the same year, SB 206, the Department of Health and Human Services is authorized to study the feasibility of increasing Medicaid payments to employers of personal care attendants and other direct-care employees so those employers can provide health insurance for their workers.

Only few individuals prepare for their senior life, while most overlook the possibility of acquiring illnesses or disability that could hamper them from living life independently. Long term care can happen anytime, but proper planning prepares you to the real battle. The risks associated with LTC is more serious than emotional woe, above all, it is a financial adversity.

As you value the life of your elderly parent, spouse, siblings, and other loved ones, you should understand that they need greater level of care for their condition, and this requirement entails bigger responsibility on your part. Long term care provides personal care, which refers to activities of daily living or ADLs, while skilled care typically includes therapy, wound care, and other activities that require professional help. These services are available and limited to various settings in your home, in an assisted living facility, in a nursing home, or in adult day care. Unfortunately, most of these institutional care services, particularly nursing home care, are so expensive. Consider that average nursing home stay is two years and the average cost in 2010 was ,000/ year, then that could equate to 0,000 for two years. Imagine that price could almost drain your retirement savings.

Unfortunately, most individuals are compelled to pay those expenses on their own because their life or health insurance does not cover LTC services and Medicaid requires them to spend down their assets to qualify for benefits. Otherwise, many families bear the brunt of paying for their loved one’s care, even if it means selling their properties and stocks. Many of them wait until their assets meet the required Medicaid asset limit for the hope that they would receive enough coverage for their health, but, sadly, they only receive short term help in a nursing home.

Many Americans lack knowledge on long term care insurance information, the reason why they come to think of other alternatives when financing their care. Many of them remorse ending up impoverished, this is because they chose not to plan for their care and take risks.

LTCi is offered by various private insurance companies in United States. This covers both personal and skilled care to cater to the changing needs and health requirements of policyholders. From simple activities such as bathing, dressing, and etc., your LTCi policy ensures you’ll be getting considerate coverage to help you live normally and independently. Moreover, higher degree of nursing care can be also covered in your LTCi policy to help mitigate health problems, particularly degenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s or dementia.

Most of LTCi policies are tailor fit according to the policyholder’s requirements. Its four main features—the benefit period, benefit amount, elimination period, and inflation protection—can be customized to reduce the premiums and guarantee sufficient coverage. Make sure to ask for long term care insurance quotes to compare various providers and coverage.

Along with the benefits this insurance provides, the Congress has passed a bill that allows policy benefits to be itemized as medical expenses or deductions. The Internal Revenue Service allows policyholders to have some deductions when they meet more than 7.5 % of the adjusted gross income or AGI. Many of policies sold today are tax qualified, meaning they have certain tax advantages.

<img alt=""personal care"" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5174/5513415638_5bde7006ce_m.jpg" width="160"/>

According to the Decennial Census in 2000, the population of Americans aged 65 and above will have ballooned to over 70 million by 2030. This is alarming for thousands of uninsured baby boomers who have no option but rely on their old spouse and children for care.

The publicly-funded Medicare is said to be America’s saving grace on elder care, but Medicare undermines such role. Although billions have been allocated on Medicare, the program is bent on its promise of providing affordable and continuous long term care services to low and middle-income groups. Medicare does not guarantee excellent services, and, otherwise, provide second-rate or rather “poor” programs for the elderly.

What is the best time to purchase long term care policy?

Your age determines the cost of the LTC policy. Most insurance companies offer cheaper policies to those who purchase the policy at younger age. Thus, the younger you are, the cheaper the premiums you’ll get. But, keep in mind that you will be paying the premiums for longer time before you receive the benefits.

.

Most insurers don’t sell long term care policies to people over 85 and with pre-existing medical condition such as heart disease and dementia. This is reasonable because chronically ill people will not be able to pay for the premiums and they will be needing extensive care in the future. Only credible insurance companies offer policies to healthy individuals who will make most of the benefits in the future.

Significant Policy Features

The most critical factor is determining the set of conditions that triggers the flow of the benefit coverage. All policies must have comprehensive eligibility requirements or rules to abide before the policyholder starts paying for the premiums.

The type or level of care should be also considered in the policy. Bathing is one the most important activities of daily living (ADLs). This benefit begins when you are no longer capable of performing activities without assistance.

However, in some states, a good long term care policy shall include all levels of care from custodial to personal care provided in various types of settings. The types of settings are as follows:

Adult Day Care – This facility provides specialized care or activities for the elderly and the handicapped. Some adult day care offers excellent environment for elders with Alzheimer’s or dementia. It normally operates under the social or health care model to provide skilled recreational activities and care for the elders.

Assisted living facilities – This kind of facility provides assistance including personal care to the elders through the help of healthcare providers. The services include administration of medication and individual care for seniors who can no longer do activities independently. The 24-hour monitoring of the trained staff ensures health and safety of the residents.

Facility Care Services – This provides skilled nursing care, occupational therapy, and others through the assistance of qualified health aides. This facility is good for ill and frail individuals who need 24-hour supervision.

Nursing facilities – Most of these types are certified by the state and federal government agencies to provide custodial and nursing care to the residents. The services offered here are perfect for those who need daily care. However, many patients use nursing homes for short rehabilitative care after an acute illness or injury.

Always determine the type of services and facilities covered under your long term care your policy. It’s best to ask your insurance agent to understand more of the terms and conditions of the policy.

Another important feature not to overlook at is the waiver of premium. It allows you to discontinue paying the premiums during the time you are receiving the benefits. Overview the policy to see the important regulations on this feature, including the requirement to stay in nursing home for certain period of around 60 to 90 days before your premiums are waived.

Most of all make sure that your policy has guaranteed “non-forfeiture” benefit to protect the incurred policy benefits even if you drop the policy or let it lapse. This benefit somehow increases your premiums.

All long term care policies today are guaranteed renewable. You should know what your insurance company rules out on this feature to avoid unwanted expenses and disputes in the future.

<img alt=""personal care"" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2503/3802082065_aeb413678d_m.jpg" width="160"/>

Colorado’s Long-Term Care Partnerships is a coalition between private insurance and the federal government to help Colorado residents plan for future long-term needs without spending all their belongings to pay for maintenance. Its purpose is to encourage and reward Colorado residents planning ahead for future LTC needs.

These partnerships main goals are: (1) To help citizens of Colorado in LTC planning for their future LTC needs through quality assurance, (2) without exhausting all resources (assets) to pay for long-term care.

In Colorado, long term care services vary but in general include both nursing facilities and Home and Community Based Services (HCBS). Its nursing facilities provide day and night care from a health professional with basic needs as housing and feeding. While, HCBS include support from a nurse, a caregiver at home, or other personal care provider and includes services such as cleaning, meal preparation and assistance with bathing and dressing.

In terms of costs, Medicaid provides some assistance with LTC in specific situations. It provides health and LTC services for eligible low-income individuals. People who are covered include children, pregnant women, or individuals who are elderly or who have disabilities. This Medicaid program is governed by the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy & Financing. However, to become qualified for this program, a person must meet certain standards, which mainly includes (a) financial and non-financial requirements involving evaluation of income and assets, (b) non-financial requirements embracing Colorado residency, proof of citizenship and identity, provision of a Social Security number, and meeting the required level of care.

How does this latest LTC partnership work? It is plainly simple. For every dollar that a LTC Partnership insurance policy pays out in benefits, a dollar of personal assets can be protected if a resident wants to apply for Medicaid. This partnership must include inflation protection and must be issued after the program begins in Colorado. The inflation protection helps the policy keep up with the rising care of LTC services.

For individuals aging 61 to 75, the state requires inflation protection of 5% simple interest, 3% compound interest or CPI simple interest. But, from 76 up, no inflation is required. And, under federal law, Colorado is not authorized to add provisions concerning undertakings LTC policies. Current long-term care policyholders who wish to conduct partnership policies should contact their insurance providers of their choice on the issue of a new partnership qualified policy.

LTC Partnership policies are not meant for everyone. But it plays a significant role for those assets to protect. They are a practical option especially for those consumers who will need to rely on Medicaid assistance with LTC in the future.

Long term care is comprised of a wide range of care services which are not only provided at home but in different settings as well. For those who cannot stay at home, the level of care they require may be given in a variety of residential care settings, such as assisted living, board and care homes, and Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs).

Care is not only given on these types of settings, it is also available in facility-based service providers such as the following:

Assisted Living

Assisted Living is designed for people who want to live in the community and who need or expect to need assistance for daily activities, but do not require the same care as if they were in a nursing home. In terms of costs, it varies greatly in part to the necessary facilities and services by a resident of that institution.

Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs)

CCRCs are also called life care communities. This type of settings offers various levels of care in one location. It may offer independent housing for people who need little or no care and if a person becomes unable to live independently, he can arrange moving to an assisted living area, or sometimes receive home care in an independent living unit.

Adult Foster Care

Adult foster care may be granted to individuals or small groups of adults who need help functioning, or who cannot live safely on their own. The host family provides room and board, 24-hours availability, help administer medications and assist in their daily activities. Certification requirements and the terminology used for this type of facility vary widely from state to state.

Board and Care Homes

Board and care homes are more popularly known as residential care facilities or group homes. They are smaller private facilities capable of holding usually 20 or fewer residents. In this setting, rooms can be private or residents can share their rooms. Residents receive meals, personal care and have staff available 24 hours a day. However, nursing and medical attention is not usually offered to the premises.

Nursing Homes

Nursing Homes, also known as skilled nursing facilities (SNF) or convalescent care facilities offer a wide range of services, such as nurses, 24 hours monitoring of assistance activities of daily living, and rehabilitation services including physical, disease occupational and speech therapy. Others opt to nursing homes in cases like care can no longer be given safely at home. Nursing homes are heavily regulated and are approved by state governments.

        People are living longer nowadays than our forefathers. Credit goes to better accommodation, better environment and excellent health care facilities. This increasing trend can also be noticed in the developing countries as well. And while we are living for a longer time, we need some coverage for our life to live in a suitable manner. For any person having self-respect, it is hardly acceptable to be dependent upon the children. Long term care insurance can be of help in this situation.

Most of the people going for long term care insurance quotes are mainly looking for protecting their assets, availing quality care at the time when they are not fully mobile and does not take care of themselves. It is also sought to maintain some independence. Long term care insurance provides necessary care at their home, in any place providing assisted environment for living, old age home or in a nursing home beyond a predetermined time span. You must analyze your requirement before getting a long term care insurance quote.

This type of insurance can be purchased from a licensed broker or any qualified agent. You can purchase any long term care insurance for yourself and for the persons you love. Quotes from different companies will help you to find best deal customized according to your requirements. But before you finalize any quote, please consider the following points ?

1. Make sure that the coverage you are opting is beneficial for you. Some of the insurance quotes will include unnecessary features, which are not at all required by you. Rather, all the features are not similar in different insurance companies. Some of them will provide personal care either at your home or any nursing home. Some of them will offer assisted living care support. Some of them also provide care for your pet. If you are keen and explore few numbers of the long term care insurance quotes, you will definitely find a company that offers most of these requirements. You can pick the deal.

2. Covering your spouse from the same company will give you a discount. You will be eligible for a multiple policy concession. In case the male member is not opting for the insurance, it is always better to cover his woman counterpart as it is seen women tend to live for a longer time.

3. Look for the companies offering fixed rate. It is not rational to purchase a long term care insurance where there is a chance to increase the premium in the future. Some companies prefer to get a higher premium rate as the person gets older. Choosing this type of quote may land you up in trouble in future. You may either have to pay a hefty premium or to become a defaulter.

4. Do not go for the big names in the insurance industry. It is quite often seen that smaller companies offer a better deal than the luminaries. Then again, you have to be sure about all the features of the insurance.

Long term care insurance quote is a great opportunity to live a peaceful life for an indefinite period of time. You must consider purchasing such insurance.

Home Health Care is a service that allows patients to get individualized Health Care, conserving their life quality in the comfort and privacy of their homes. New York is the active city and the straggling technological hub-is within the states with very expensive Long Term Care Facilities in United States of America. A large amount of 0,960 is expended for a medium rate of private rooms in Nursing homes, which is evidently costlier to the national average of ,525. Even so, the price of private home health aide is tight to the national average.

Consorting to the Genworth prices of Care Survey, the average disbursal for non-Medicare indorsed aide is ,620 as compared to the national average of ,472. Amazingly, the average annual disbursal for Medicaree-endorsed aide is ,565 which is much lower than the medium rate of 5,751.

According to the American gerontology Society, the number of senior people that are let into nursing homes has moved up since 1994. Several of these people are admitted to older Care Facilities as soon as they are forced out from a hospital or after an emergent illness. Various factors bestowing to this increase includes low income, age and poor family support. Even so, the occupation rate in nursing facilities has discharged to less than 90%. Lot of people think this is because of an enhanced amount of nursing facilities and helped care facilities. Through UNICEF’s ‘Unite for Children, Unite against AIDS’ campaign, contribute to go towards facilitating billions of children.

Homemaker services are very much similar to those offered through companion services and personal care. Getting senior Home care services with this option holds up the requirement for a person undergoing care in a nursing home facility, and makes people who have been in the big hospital to return their homes.
