Health care reform

Health care reform

A provision in the health care reform bill approved in the House of Representatives could force farmers to provide health insurance coverage for seasonal temporary workers.

That is one of the reasons that the Virginia Farm Bureau, which has more than 3,000 members in Franklin County, opposes the health care reform legislation.

As the debate over the details of the legislation moves to the floor of the U.S. Senate this week, Farm Bureau members are mobilizing to oppose it.

The Farm Bureau has nearly 150,000 members in 88 Virginia counties, including 3,300 members in Franklin County.

“Health care reform in its current state will have a huge negative impact on the cost, quality and availability of the health insurance that farmers purchase for themselves, their families and the workers they employ,” said Trey Davis, political education and legislative specialist for the Farm Bureau.

The legislation will cost the United States $1 trillion, and reports show that it will increase the average premium for Americans and small businesses that choose to participate in the government-run program, Davis said.

“We oppose a public option that would harm individual businesses and increase the current cost of private insurance plans than many farmers purchase,” he said.

“A government-run program that will reimburse hospitals and physicians at lower costs will put rural healthcare facilities and doctors out of business,” Davis added.

Farm Bureau members are sharing their concerns with Virginia Sens. Jim Webb and Mark Warner.

“Changes are coming to America’s health care system, and all voters need to be better informed on the options being debated,” said Greg Hicks, communications director for the Farm Bureau.

“In this case, Farm Bureau opposes the current legislation, but many times we support bills and legislative issues, so this is one more way we hope the voice of our producer members will be heard,”?Hicks said.

because their focus groups have told them insurance is the concern of Americans. The Dems change their color often to match popular opinion. Obama's success has been built on telling the people what they want to hear. It's a Snake-Oil-Salesman tactic.

we have had too many bills go through congress
without a full read on them –

    like the stimulus bills, etc

    enough is enough

the members of congress are getting out to hear their constituents
and we are fed up – and they are catching it

the members say they can;t have meaningful discussions
    well – two years ago I attended a Senator's 2 hour
community discussion – - – - and the plants were there

by that meaning – - the thousand member organizations
who wanted to thank the senator for their support of-
yada yada yada yada yada yada
NONE OF US LITTLE PEOPLE GOT A CHANCE TO SPEAK

it's no wonder we are shouting – cause you sure ain't listening

look forward to the meeting 9-12-09 in Washington

and the next election – in 2010

they better be scared down to their boots

we are mad as heck and not going to take it anymore

If Jefferson, Madison, and Adams were extremists – I am glad to
be counted as an extremist, too.

    God Bless America !

I believe that everyone should be allowed to debate the bill. However, Republicans have not offered any alternatives to health care reform other than "no." Thus, Democrats should feel free to put a robust health care bill without their support since there isn't any true debate going on.

Even if Obama did everything the Republicans wanted, they'd still blame him for everything.

i don't think that the health care reform will assist you on making your drugs more affordable, but that's just my opinion. but what i do know is that the reform will cut down the cost of your health bills such as going to the doctor because of an injury. i don't know a lot about the reform but i hope that this will help you, if it were me i would just continue to purchase from Canada.
